About The Position

The Park Board of Trustees in Galveston is looking to hire a full-time Coastal Zone Management Beach Cleaning Technician to assist in maintaining our beaches through September 2026. This role is ideal for someone looking to utilize their maintenance skills within the hospitality and tourism industry at a historic beach destination. The Park Board of Trustees, established in 1963, oversees Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB), and Coastal Zone Management (CZM). Funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) and beach user fees, the organization's mission is to promote and support tourism on Galveston Island, fostering an environment that makes it a great place to live, work, and visit. Their vision is to create a tourist destination offering diverse experiences and a high quality of life for residents, sharing the island's natural resources, attractions, events, and heritage with all.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Holds a valid class C Texas driver's license
  • Ability to drive vehicles in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor
  • Ability to stand and walk for 8 hours a day
  • Skilled at driving a 3/4 ton truck with or without manual transmission
  • Basic math skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Reliable and responsible

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification or ability to become certified (CTA training provided by the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees upon hire)

Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate beach cleaning vehicles
  • Remove debris from beaches
  • Secure equipment in trailers or trucks for transport to the warehouse
  • Use hand tools to complete work tasks
  • Rake beaches to maintain their appearance
  • Communicate with supervisors using a two-way radio
  • Work closely with parks, beach patrol, and other departments
  • Complete written department forms accurately
  • Provide labor for special events
  • Promote good public relations through friendly and helpful communication with visitors
  • Work effectively with other employees to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner
  • Contribute to the successful operation of the park
