About The Position

We are seeking a Coastal Engineer to join our Ports and Coastal Resilience Practice. The preferred location for this position is Melbourne, Florida, although the position may also be based in Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami, or Tallahassee, Florida. The successful candidate will support the design and construction oversight of dredging, beach nourishment, waterway restoration, beneficial use, shoreline stabilization, and dredged material placement projects. This position requires a coastal engineer who can contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from initial data collection and design through permitting, bidding, and construction services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer license in Florida, or the ability to obtain Florida licensure within a reasonable period after hire.
  • Experience preparing technical specifications, construction drawings, cost estimates, and bid documents.
  • Experience supporting engineering design, construction administration, or construction oversight assignments.
  • Working knowledge of hydrographic surveys, dredge quantity calculations, sediment characterization, or geotechnical investigations.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local permitting requirements applicable to dredging and coastal construction.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and perform fieldwork when required.
  • Strong project management, technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Coastal Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Four to eight years of relevant engineering experience preferred, including experience with dredging or coastal projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the design of dredging, beach nourishment, waterway restoration, and other coastal engineering projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate surveys, geotechnical investigations, environmental studies, and other technical data-collection efforts.
  • Perform engineering analyses and evaluate alternatives to support project design and construction.
  • Support permitting, bidding, construction administration, and construction oversight activities.
  • Monitor compliance with project specifications, permit conditions, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Assist with managing project schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and field staff.
  • Participate in project-site visits and field activities, as required.
