About The Position

This role involves operating and maintaining the unloading and conveying system for coal, fly ash, bottom ash, and reagents. The position requires learning to operate and maintain heavy equipment such as dozers, trucks, and loaders. Additionally, responsibilities include performing maintenance on conveyor systems, chute work, material handling systems, and rail car unloading equipment. The role also involves reporting irregularities, participating in continuous improvement, and performing cleaning and washdown tasks on various parts of the coal conveyor system. Successful candidates must reside within 1 hour of Flint Creek Powerplant.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED.
  • Must have a good understanding of some of the following equipment: mobile equipment, conveyors, pumps, hydraulic systems, electrical controls, welding, cutting and fabrication, etc. (mechanical).
  • Must have 2 year experience repairing/operating the following types of equipment, such as: Conveyors, hydraulic systems, machinery alignment, bulldozers, scrapers, loaders, forklifts, etc. (electrical).
  • Must have 2 year of industrial electrical, instrumentation or controls experience.
  • Must have 2 year of industrial welding experience and pass AEP testing if required.
  • Must possess the appropriate State driver's license.
  • Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position.
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Minimum long distance travel required but the inspection of remote equipment is a daily requirement for this position.
  • Must respond to callouts in both outage and non-outage work to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules.
  • Comply with all applicable plant operating instructions and procedures.
  • Comply with the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work environment and report unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Must learn and have a working knowledge of Safety and Environmental guidelines.
  • Properly use the tools and equipment applicable to work duties.
  • Read, interpret and work from simple prints and specifications.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and effective interactions with employees, contractors and others.
  • Must be willing and able to work inside designated confined space entry areas, elevated areas and in hot and cold temperatures.
  • Must be able to wear respirator when required.
  • Train for fire fighting, first aid, AED and other emergency response programs as required.
  • Demonstration of applicable knowledge, skills and abilities are required for next progression within job family.
  • High school degree or GED with applicable experience listed below or an applicable 2 year associate degree related to an industrial field of study.
  • Must have 5 years of related industrial experience without 2 year associate degree or 3 years of related industrial experience with a 2 year associate degree.
  • Must have 3 years experience repairing/operating the following types of equipment, such as: Conveyors, hydraulic systems, machinery alignment, bulldozers, scrapers, loaders, forklifts, etc.
  • Must have 3 years of industrial electrical, instrumentation or controls experience.
  • Must have 3 years of industrial welding experience and pass AEP testing if required.
  • Required EEI Testing: POSS/MASS Combination, but must be successful in MASS.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning work and washdown on the coal conveyor system, such as car dumpers, bunkers, runways, tripper room, belt decks, and tunnels.
  • Load, unload and handle coal, materials, and equipment.
  • Couple and uncouple railroad cars.
  • Haul and move materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Perform cleaning work of all kinds in, around, and on equipment, buildings, and yard.
  • Clean and remove ashes and debris.
  • Work on tracks and track beds.
  • Operate and assist in performing maintenance on all coal yard related equipment.
  • Clean and perform lubrication on all equipment including conveyors, pumps, large motors and gearboxes and mobile equipment.
  • Learn to inspect and test fire equipment and properly document tests.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of industrial processes and systems.
  • Assist issuing clearances, clearing and tagging equipment and holding clearance permits.
  • Prepare and maintain records as required.
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to supervisor.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.
