The position promotes sportsmanship and fosters good character in student athletes. It requires providing for the safety and welfare of all participants and supervising students in practice areas, locker rooms, busses, and at all times during the season. The coach must exercise patience, tolerance, and diplomacy in relations with all players, parents, co-workers, contest officials, and spectators. Interscholastic activities are considered an extension of the classroom, and as such, the coach's actions, behavior, and interactions with student athletes should reflect this principle.
