About The Position

This role is responsible for the organization and supervision of the coaching staff in teaching the fundamentals of interscholastic sports. The coach is responsible for the behavior of the entire squad and coaching staff during practices and games. This includes directing the total program, safeguarding participants' well-being, controlling team behavior, informing athletes of departmental guidelines, and managing equipment inventory. The coach also cooperates in supervising locker rooms and team areas, ensuring athletes are never unsupervised. Additional duties include showing courtesies to officials and visiting teams, arranging for equipment storage, attending department meetings and contests, managing expenditures within budget, recognizing the influence on young adults, and securing athletic scholarships for seniors. The coach also assists with special events, serves as an advisor to players, and supports the school's overall program.

Requirements

  • Must be responsible for the organization and supervision of his/her coaching staff.
  • Must be responsible for the behavior of the entire squad and coaching staff.
  • Must safeguard the physical well-being of all participants.
  • Must control his/her behavior and that of his/her team at practices and games.
  • Must inform all athletes of the guidelines, conduct code, policies and procedures of the department and the OHSAA.
  • Must be financially responsible for all equipment in his/her inventory.
  • Must cooperatively supervise the locker room and team area.
  • Must be present in the locker room until all athletes have gone from the area.
  • Must show special courtesies to officials and visiting teams.
  • Must attend all Athletic Department meetings unless excused.
  • Must be in attendance at all interscholastic contests involving his/her team, at home or away, unless there is an extenuating circumstance.
  • Must keep expenditures within the budget.
  • Must be cognizant of the tremendous influence coaches and sports have on athletes.
  • Must approach the task of coaching at all times with the thought in mind that what one says and does, both desirable and undesirable, has tremendous consequence upon the actions and reactions of the young adults.
  • Must secure athletic scholarships for deserving seniors.
  • Must assist in the planning of special events such as assemblies, Homecoming, pep rallies, Booster Club programs, banquets, etc.
  • Must serve as an advisor to the players on his/her squad to help them with problems.
  • Must be interested and loyal to the school’s program.
  • Must support the entire program, encouraging athletes to participate in other sports.
  • Must be an active participant in striving to improve the athletic program as well as the total educational program of the schools.
  • Must perform other coaching-related duties as directed by the Principal or Athletic Administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Organization and supervision of coaching staff in teaching fundamentals of interscholastic sports.
  • Responsibility for the behavior of the entire squad and coaching staff at all practice sessions and interscholastic games.
  • Supervision and direction of the total program of his/her sport.
  • Directing the work and assignment of assistant coaches with the approval of the Athletic Administrator.
  • Safeguarding the physical well-being of all participants.
  • Controlling his/her behavior and that of his/her team at practices and games.
  • Informing all athletes of the guidelines, conduct code, policies, and procedures of the department and the OHSAA.
  • Financial responsibility for all equipment in his/her inventory and accounting for issued equipment at the end of the season.
  • Cooperative supervision of the locker room and team area with other coaches.
  • Ensuring athletes are never in an unsupervised area.
  • Responsibility for special courtesies shown to officials and visiting teams.
  • Arranging for storage at the conclusion of the season for all jackets, sweaters, shoes, hats, and any other coaching staff equipment purchased by the athletic fund.
  • Attending all Athletic Department meetings unless excused by the Athletic Administrator.
  • Attendance at all interscholastic contests involving his/her team, at home or away, unless there is an extenuating circumstance.
  • Keeping expenditures within the budget.
