About The Position

Spokane Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for Girls' Basketball coaching positions at the Freshman & JV levels at Ferris High School. As a staff member, you will contribute to a collaborative learning community, fostering an environment where all students belong and thrive. The role involves developing student skills and attitudes, upholding school policies, and managing various aspects of the team's operations. This is a temporary, extracurricular role.

Requirements

  • College degree or college training preferred, with a high school diploma or equivalent as a minimum qualification.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students and the ability to motivate them toward developing a successful program.
  • Understand the activity, its safety practices, techniques, rules, and progression of skill development.
  • Be able to instruct students in the techniques and requirements of the activity.
  • Ability to plan practices and events, and organize necessary materials and personnel.
  • Be able to consistently meet scheduled responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities.
  • Ability to work independently and/or cooperatively under supervision.
  • Ability to work with all student coaches, colleagues, and other staff in a positive, professional, and equitable manner.
  • Physical stamina to conduct the sport/activity and withstand various weather conditions.
  • Implement the policies and rules/regulations as outlined in the school activities handbook.
  • A fingerprint background check is required for all prospective employees.

  • Current first-aid certification is highly recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure school policies, rules, and regulations are followed as outlined by the building principal/activities coordinator and the activities handbook.
  • Provide direct supervision and conduct of the team until students are dismissed or returned to class.
  • Conduct oneself and the program in a professional manner, developing student skills and attitudes.
  • Inform the principal of any program changes.
  • Administer the activity regarding insurance requirements, parent/guardian approval cards, maintaining team rosters, accident reports, accountability of uniforms, team transportation, and security of athletes' personal property.
  • Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of best training and injury procedures.
  • Distribute information/activity schedules to building principals, secretary, parents, and participants.
  • Attend meetings called by the activities coordinator, including required pre- and post-season meetings.
  • Care for and maintain equipment for the activity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
