About The Position

The Co-Teacher's job is to support the Lead Teacher in the comprehensive education of children, ensuring their well-being and fostering their development in all areas (language, emotional, physical, and cognitive). The Co-Teacher collaborates in creating a positive learning environment, following the policies and regulations of the school and the state of North Carolina. Additionally, the Co-Teacher has the opportunity to develop skills that will allow them to assume the responsibility of being a Lead Teacher in the future. In the absence of the Lead Teacher (vacations, days off, etc.), the Co-Teacher will assume full responsibility for the classroom, coordinating all activities and ensuring the continuity of the educational program.

Requirements

HS Degree + Early Childhood NC Credentials (with at least 18 EC Ed credits) or Bachelor's in Education, Psychology.
AA/AAS in Early Childhood Development or Child Development.
Bilingual (Spanish and English).
Minimum of 1 year of verifiable experience in early childhood.
CPR and First Aid certification.
Criminal background check (DHHS Criminal Background Check).
Fluent communication in Spanish and English.
Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
Self-motivation, initiative, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Creative and effective problem-solving skills.
Foster teamwork and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and families.
Physical agility: Ability to move easily within the classroom, including kneeling, crouching, crawling, running, and jumping to interact with children at their level.
Active physical interaction: Ability to get down to the child's level physically, whether sitting on the floor or kneeling, to promote an environment of closeness and trust.
Adaptability to movement: Ability to make quick and precise movements when necessary to ensure children's safety, such as assisting them during play or in risky situations.

Responsibilities

Support the Lead Teacher in the comprehensive education of children, ensuring their well-being and fostering their development in all areas.
Collaborate in creating a positive learning environment.
Follow the policies and regulations of the school and the state of North Carolina.
Assume full responsibility of the classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
Coordinate all activities and ensure the continuity of the educational program.
Facilitate respectful dialogue with children, parents, and colleagues.
Ensure individual needs of children are met appropriately and in a timely manner.
Collaborate in the preparation of pedagogical activities and support in planning activities and tasks.
Help create a positive work and learning environment where respect and inclusion prevail.
Be attentive to the emotions and needs of children and adults, providing support when necessary.
Handle interactions with discretion and tact, always following school guidelines.
Demonstrate respect towards children, colleagues, and families at all times.
Perform circle time once every three weeks, preparing necessary materials and supporting the Lead Teacher during their circle time.
Take charge of story time when the Lead Teacher conducts circle time, ensuring the story is interactive using books, puppets, or dramatizations.
Participate in the programming of educational activities once every two program cycles made by the Lead Teacher, ensuring the educational plan aligns with children's developmental objectives.
Complete evaluations for half of the assigned children, which will be reviewed and approved by the Lead Teacher before submission to administration.
Take attendance at 9:00 a.m. and perform headcounts before leaving the classroom and when entering activities outside the classroom, in collaboration with the Lead Teacher.
Alternate diaper changes with the Lead Teacher and be responsible for setting up nap beds while children finish eating, ensuring a smooth transition.
Send private messages to parents about children's progress or important incidents via the virtual application (Procare), collaborating with the Lead Teacher on general daily information.
Participate in music and movement activities, alternating with the Lead Teacher to lead these activities.
Organize and execute extracurricular activities: Grandparent Activity, Thanksgiving Day, Square 1 Art, Valentine's Day, Planting Day (Spring).
Support in cleaning and organizing the classroom, especially after meals and before nap time, ensuring a safe and clean environment for the children.
Encourage children to wash their hands correctly, following the health and safety regulations established by the school and the DCDEE.
In the absence of the Lead Teacher, assume total responsibility for the classroom, ensuring the continuity of activities, compliance with school policies, and correct execution of the daily educational plan.
