About The Position

The Co-Responder provides community-based crisis intervention, de-escalation, assessment, safety planning, follow-up support, and connection to resources. This position works collaboratively with the Sheboygan Police Department and community partners to provide person-centered responses that promote safety, recovery, and improved outcomes for individuals in crisis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field required.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to assess situations, problem-solve, and make sound decisions in crisis environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally responsive and respectful services.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of self-care practices and maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws related to crisis response and behavioral health services.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency and police-based calls for service involving individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, or other behavioral health crises.
  • Provide community-based crisis intervention, de-escalation, assessment, safety planning, and connection to appropriate resources.
  • Complete follow-up contacts with individuals engaged through crisis and emergency services.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, dispatch, county partners, and community providers to improve coordination and service delivery.
  • Serve as a liaison between individuals, families, first responders, and community resources.
  • Utilize trauma-informed, person-centered, and Zero Suicide approaches when supporting individuals and their families.
  • Participate in patrol briefings, debriefings, ride-alongs, and proactive community outreach with law enforcement partners.
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation and required data collection.
  • Maintain required training, education, certifications, and best practice standards, including applicable Wisconsin requirements.
  • Protect client confidentiality and maintain professional standards at all times.
