About The Position

The Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) is seeking multiple Co-op Students to support the commissioning and operational readiness of its new Rare Earth Processing Facility. This facility is North America's first fully integrated, commercial demonstration Rare Earth Processing Facility, encompassing hydrometallurgy, separation, and metal smelting stages. The facility is currently producing rare earth metals at a commercial scale and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026. SRC aims to establish a rare earth element (REE) technology hub in Saskatchewan and is committed to becoming representative of Indigenous people across all job categories by providing meaningful work experience to students. The available positions are term positions running from September 2026 to December 2026 and are located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Instrumentation Engineering Technology
  • Currently enrolled in Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Currently enrolled in Computer Engineering Technology
  • Currently enrolled in Architectural Technology
  • Must provide an original Criminal Record Check satisfactory to SRC prior to commencement of employment duties (executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with verifying electrical installations against single-line diagrams.
  • Participate in system walkdowns and punch list reviews.
  • Support energization and testing procedures.
  • Support loop checks, insulation and continuity testing, instrument calibration, valve stroke and logic verification.
  • Update redlines and documentation.
  • Maintain commissioning logs.
  • Support sensor integration, data flow into SCADA, and AI/ML workflow tasks, including configuration, testing, data preparation, and performance reporting.
  • Assist with coordinating the design and integration of robotic systems.
  • Attend vendor meetings.
  • Coordinate information between owner and vendor engineering teams.
  • Provide support in developing operational plans and procedures.
  • Assist with the administration of building and environmental permitting.
  • Support coordination of warehouse design and site earthworks development projects.
  • Facilitate communication among engineering teams and contractors by managing RFIs, submittals, and transmittals.
  • Assist with contract management to ensure work remains on schedule, within budget, and meets quality standards.
