About The Position

Vancer is seeking motivated students for its Diesel Technician CO-OP Sponsorship Program. This program is designed to help students develop into skilled diesel technicians for the heavy equipment and railroad industries. Participants will receive paid tuition assistance, hands-on experience with custom maintenance-of-way (MOW) equipment, professional mentorship, and opportunities for career advancement within Vancer upon graduation. The program combines classroom instruction with practical experience in Vancer's manufacturing and service environment.

Requirements

  • Have earned your high school diploma (or will graduate prior to program start).
  • Plan to enroll, or are currently enrolled, in a Vancer-approved Diesel Technology program.
  • Have strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated through school, hobbies, work experience, or personal projects.
  • Enjoy solving mechanical problems and working with your hands.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Have a strong attendance record and positive attitude.
  • Intend to pursue a long-term career with Vancer after graduation.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward graduation within approximately 24 months.
  • Successfully complete both classroom and workplace learning requirements.
  • Demonstrate Vancer's values in school, at work, and in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside experienced technicians inspecting, diagnosing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing custom railroad equipment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Learn industry-leading diagnostic and repair techniques.
  • Participate in technical training and professional development opportunities.
  • Develop safe work habits while following company policies and procedures.
  • Represent Vancer professionally at work, school, and within your community.
  • Build the technical skills needed for a successful career in the diesel and heavy equipment industry.
