Co-Op – IT – ServiceNow CMDB and Discovery
About The Position
The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO takes pride in recruiting, developing and retaining highly talented individuals. Our co-op programs give young professionals the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of New York electricity markets, bulk electricity systems and how we plan for New York State’s energy future. The NYISO is seeking a ServiceNow CMDB and Discovery Co-Op to support the accuracy, completeness, and overall health of the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database and Discovery platform. Working alongside Service Graph professionals, the student will perform data-quality analysis, validate asset and configuration information, create operational reporting, and help strengthen documentation and governance practices. The student’s work will support infrastructure visibility, configuration management, audit readiness, and operational efficiency. This opportunity provides exposure to ServiceNow, enterprise applications, databases, reporting, IT service management, internal controls, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Cybersecurity, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
- Interest in IT service management, databases, workflow automation, reporting, or enterprise applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Attention to detail and interest in data quality, compliance, internal controls, or process improvement.
- Ability to work with technical and business stakeholders.
- Ability to ask questions, track follow-up items, and communicate status clearly.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to learn new platforms and apply feedback to assigned work.
Nice To Haves
- ServiceNow or Flow Designer experience is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with Agile methods, user stories, acceptance criteria, or process mapping is helpful but not required.
Responsibilities
- Review CMDB records for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and currency.
- Assist with ServiceNow Discovery validation and asset inventory reconciliation.
- Identify missing, duplicate, stale, or inconsistent configuration data.
- Support CMDB stewardship and data-cleanup activities.
- Develop reports and dashboards that support operational decision-making.
- Help monitor Discovery coverage and infrastructure asset visibility.
- Prepare documentation for CMDB, Discovery, governance, and data-quality processes.
- Support validation, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with reporting related to compliance, internal controls, and audit readiness.
- Analyze data-quality trends and recommend opportunities for improvement.
- Gather information from application owners, infrastructure specialists, and other stakeholders.
- Present status updates, findings, and completed work to technical and business audiences.
