About The Position

The College of Natural Resources (CNR) Student Success Center (SSC) is a central hub for student inquiries, offering confidential advising and services to help students achieve their academic and career goals. The SSC aims to promote exceptional academic performance and out-of-class preparation. It is staffed by Professional Advisors and Peer Mentors who are knowledgeable about CNR academic programs. The CNR SSC provides support to faculty, staff, and students in areas such as advising, involvement opportunities, graduation planning, clarifying academic paths, providing information on summer field experiences and jobs/internships, resume creation, and more.

Requirements

  • College of Natural Resources (CNR) major
  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status
  • At least 3 semesters remaining on campus (graduation date of Fall 2026 or later)
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above
  • Active involvement in at least one or two student organizations or extracurricular activities
  • Good communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in an environment that can be fast-paced
  • Desire to help other students and be a trusted team member
  • Able to work 8 or more hours per week
  • Occasional evening and weekend requirements
  • Work study helpful, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assist with a variety of academic, career, and administrative tasks.
  • Develop a working knowledge of CNR and university academic policies and procedures.
  • Staff the CNR SSC front desk, providing accurate information and scheduling appointments, often assisting multiple students simultaneously.
  • Mentor CNR students on CNR majors, careers, resumes, cover letters, job searches, and how to get involved in their majors and interact with faculty.
  • Refer students to other campus resources such as the Tutoring and Learning Center, Disability Resource Center, and Counseling Center.
  • Inform students about extracurricular activities and campus student organizations.
  • Meet with prospective families and participate in recruitment activities/events as needed.
  • Create and maintain accurate records of appointments and student interactions.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student meetings and information.
  • Co-facilitate the instruction of the “NRES 101- Natural Resources First Year Seminar”.
  • Offer informational sessions on involvement opportunities, internships, and accesSPoint/Canvas training.
  • Develop and lead retention events with social, academic, and/or career focuses.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and weekly staff meetings.
  • Assist with extra projects as needed.
