About The Position

Acme Industries, a precision manufacturing company serving aerospace, defense, power generation, mining, and transportation sectors since 1948, is seeking a highly experienced CNC Turning Set-Up Machinist. This role requires hands-on experience setting up and operating various Fanuc-controlled CNC Machines. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of machining processes, tooling, blueprint reading, and quality standards. The hourly pay range is $33.00-$39.00, with final compensation based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience setting up CNC turning machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience with Fanuc controls and multi-axis CNC machines (3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis).
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, feeds/speeds, and workholding methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring equipment and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and programming-related machining issues.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational machining training preferred.
  • Experience with live tooling and multi-tasking turning centers.
  • Familiarity with CAM software and editing CNC programs.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up CNC turning machines for production runs, including loading programs, installing tooling, setting offsets, and verifying first-piece quality.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and process documentation to determine machining requirements.
  • Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, and work-holding devices for optimal performance.
  • Monitor machine operation during production, troubleshooting issues related to tooling, programming, or machine performance.
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and indicators to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Document setup sheets, tooling information, and production data accurately.
  • Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and operators to improve machining processes, cycle times, and quality.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean, orderly work area.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
