About The Position

The CNC Specialist's responsibilities in the Indiana Tool and Die Division are to develop processes for programming parts. This role will primarily use machines such as CAD/CAM software, basic computer programs, CNC Turning Center, CNC machining center, manual lathe, manual mill, coordinate measuring machine, bandsaw, drill press, disc sander, bench grinder, cut off saw, and hoist with the possibility of operating other machinery not listed.

Requirements

  • Must be adaptable to changing work environment and competing demands
  • Ability to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
  • Must posses basic math skills, multiplication, division, geometry and algebra for purpose of calculating material fabrication.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of G and M code programming
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Renishaw probe programming, set up and use
  • Able to take verbal and written instructions from handmade sketches
  • Ability to follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to arrive to meetings, and all other work-related functions as scheduled on-time
  • Intermediate knowledge of precision measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators and scales
  • Intermediate knowledge of reading drawings and specifications within intermediate understanding of geometric tolerances and dimensions
  • Intermediate knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing processes for programing parts, loading parts, operating controls, setting offsets, edits, deburring and inspection of parts for quality purposes.
  • Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operation and setup requirements.
  • Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine as required to ensure quality production.
  • Communicates with supervisor, engineers, and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventive maintenance functions on equipment.
  • CNC specialist must be able to stay focused on their work and on their surroundings for long periods for safety, quality, and productivity reasons.
  • Interact with organizational team members and other departments in a professional manner.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Some light duty lifting is required (up to 35 pounds) and using a hoist for heavy lifting to cut metal and install and remove tooling and work pieces from the machine.
  • Simple grasping, fine manipulation, pushing & pulling, finger dexterity, foot movement, bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching are all required at times.
