About The Position

The CNC Setup Specialist is responsible for preparing and optimizing CNC machines for production by setting up tooling, fixtures, and workpieces, loading and adjusting CNC programs, and performing first-piece inspections to ensure quality standards are met. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, the ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings, proficiency with precision measuring instruments, and a solid understanding of G-code and CNC machining processes. The specialist also performs routine machine maintenance and maintains accurate production and quality documentation to support efficient manufacturing operations.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience in CNC machine operation or setup.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, engineering drawings, and job routers.
  • Familiar with fixtures.
  • Expertise with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • Strong understanding of G-code fundamentals and different types of CNC machines (lathes, mills).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
  • High school diploma or GED.

  • A certificate or technical diploma in machining is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mount, and secure tools, fixtures, attachments, and workpieces on CNC machines.
  • Load, edit, and adjust CNC programs (G-code) to ensure accurate production sequences.
  • Run initial test pieces, measure results using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers), and make necessary offsets for quality assurance.
  • Monitor machines during operation to detect problems (worn tools, vibration), adjust speeds and feeds, and resolve errors.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines, including lubrication, cleaning, and coolant replacement.
  • Maintain setup sheets, production logs, and quality inspection reports.
