About The Position

At 5th Axis, we are global leaders in precision machining, automated production, and turnkey manufacturing solutions. We design, build, and deliver advanced workholding systems and zero-point technology. This role is specifically for experienced CNC setup machinists with hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC milling machines, particularly multi-axis equipment. It is not an entry-level machine operator position. The role is designed for skilled machinists who take ownership of machines, optimize setups, resolve issues, and maintain production flow. As a CNC Setup Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating a variety of advanced 3-, 4-, and 5-axis milling centers and manufacturing cells in a fast-paced environment. You will collaborate with operators, programmers, leads, and production management to ensure accurate setups, efficient machine operation, and consistent quality standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of CNC setup machinist experience
  • Strong experience setting up multi-axis CNC milling machines
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand tolerances
  • Experience with probes, tool setters, offsets, and tooling measurement
  • Ability to make minor machine-side program edits
  • Strong understanding of G & M codes
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot setups and machining issues
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent math and measurement skills
  • Sense of urgency and pride in quality work
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Self-motivated attitude with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively across teams

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machines including Hermle, Mikron, HAAS, Doosan, and Grob
  • Perform setups on advanced 3-, 4-, and 5-axis milling centers
  • Utilize Fanuc controls and make minor program edits at the machine
  • Use probes and tool setters to accurately measure tooling
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, setup sheets, and production documents
  • Verify parts meet tolerance and quality requirements
  • Document setups and communicate process details to team members
  • Train operators on proper setup procedures and production expectations
  • Make minor edits at the machine to improve efficiency and performance
  • Help the team hit delivery schedules without sacrificing quality
  • Maintain accurate job records in Epicor ERP
  • Coordinate priorities to meet production schedules
  • Troubleshoot tooling, machine, and setup issues quickly
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
  • Support continuous improvement and efficiency efforts
