About The Position

South Bay Solutions is seeking an experienced CNC Setup Machinist to set up and operate horizontal milling machines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring machines are properly configured, running efficiently, and producing high-quality parts that meet engineering specifications. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in troubleshooting, process improvement, and in-process inspection. Shift: Swing

Requirements

Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Proficient in CNC machining setup and operation (horizontal mills)
Ability to inspect parts using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple machines and priorities effectively
Basic computer skills and ability to document processes
Solid math skills including basic geometry and measurements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Minimum 5 years of CNC horizontal mill setup experience

Nice To Haves

Experience with FANUC controls
Experience with Matsuura horizontal milling machines
Machining certification or completion of a formal apprenticeship program
Experience in a manufacturing or precision machining environment

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC horizontal milling machines according to blueprints and specifications
Interpret technical drawings, engineering documentation, and work instructions
Monitor machine performance and ensure efficient, uninterrupted production
Inspect and measure parts to verify conformance to specifications
Troubleshoot issues related to tooling, materials, programs, and equipment
Document setup processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and quality
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Perform routine machine maintenance and shop upkeep
Suggest improvements to part design for manufacturability
Operate and manage multiple machines simultaneously
Perform other related duties as assigned
