About The Position

This position is responsible for performing precision initial Set Up of jobs in machines, primarily Swiss Operations. The role will also serve as the primary back up to the Set Up Readiness Technician. The overall agenda is to reduce set up time plant wide through the use of the SMED system and increased skill. On occasion, the technician may be asked to run production or participate in improvement projects.

Requirements

• A related machine trades certificate/diploma and five years relevant experience, OR, seven years relevant experience.
• Experience setting up and operating complex machine tools. (Primary Swiss)
• Intermediate ability to read and interpret assembly drawings and specifications.
• Proficient in the use of machinist hand tools and measuring tools, process planning and inspection.
• Machine shop math skills.
• Proficient PC skills in a Windows environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience editing programs through machine controls and general understanding of programming
• Demonstrated problem-solving ability in a machine shop environment.
• Previous Set Up experience related to SMED Projects
• Experience using an ERP system.
• Ideal candidate will progress towards Future Programming role

Responsibilities

• Perform most critical set ups daily with direction from Production supervisor and Set Up Readiness Technician in a fast efficient manner
• Lead and Participate in SMED CI Projects to reduce plant wide set up time
• Provide leadership or mentoring to other machinist performing set ups
• Assist Set Up Readiness Technician with suggested improvements and document management.
• Directly back up Set Up Readiness Technician role
• Promote effective team building within the department and with other departments.
• Complete required documentation for all jobs responsible for, including entering data into ERP system.
• Other duties as assigned.
