About The Position

The CNC Set-Up Operator is responsible for the independent operation of various CNC machines, maintaining machine operations and all tooling needed to support program tool change needs. This role involves preparing tooling and CNC machines for various operations, using precision measurement tools, understanding task specifications by reading set-up sheets and blueprints, supervising machine execution, making necessary adjustments, and performing daily checks to ensure machinery functionality. The operator is also responsible for completing appropriate paperwork, identifying and reporting equipment issues, quality concerns, and unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel, and actively participating in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience as a CNC set-up operator required
  • Proficiency in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools (dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, etc.) required
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
  • Ability to perform basic computer & e-mail functions
  • Mechanical aptitude and proficient math skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to schedules
  • Ability to read a dial indicator, dial caliper & a micrometer
  • Ability to operate hand tools such as an angle grinder for edge deburring
  • Ability to work safely and keep area clean
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of the organization
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Able to communicate clearly, concisely and achieve intended objectives
  • Ability to work assigned shift and remain awake and alert during assigned shift is required
  • Reporting to work for assigned shift, maintaining a physical presence and performing assigned work for the duration of assigned shift is required
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tooling and CNC machines for drilling, tapping, reaming, boring and milling as required per the provided program set-up sheets.
  • Daily use of dial indicators, touch probes, magnetic chucks and heat shrink equipment in setting up and preparing CNC machines.
  • Use dial calipers & micrometers on a regular basis.
  • Understand the specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading set-up sheets and blue prints.
  • Supervise CNC machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to speeds & feeds to produce a better result.
  • Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork such as the operating procedure checklist & dimensional checks, as required.
  • Identify issues with the equipment and notify supervisor and/or maintenance.
  • Notify programmer, lead man or manager of quality issues.
  • Report unusual or unsafe conditions to lead man or manager.
  • Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment. Follow policies, programs, and procedures for the reduction and elimination of work related accidents and provide feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions.
