About The Position

The CNC Setup Machinist is responsible for setting up and optimizing CNC milling machines to produce precision components that meet engineering drawings, customer specifications, and quality standards. This position supports efficient production by establishing reliable machine setups, performing in-process inspections, troubleshooting machining issues, and collaborating with programming and manufacturing teams to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience setting up and operating 3-axis CNC machining centers.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machining centers.
  • Experience operating FANUC and HAAS control systems.
  • Proficient in CNC mill setup and machining operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
  • Strong understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and tooling selection.
  • Proficient with precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and gauges.
  • Knowledge of in-process inspection techniques and quality documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work while maintaining quality and production schedules.
  • Basic computer skills for production documentation and inspection records.
  • Must be (i) a U.S. citizen or national, (ii) a U.S. lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder), (iii) a Refugee under 8 U.S.C. §1157, (iv) an Asylee under 8 U.S.C. §1158, or otherwise eligible to obtain the required authorization from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Technical training or certification in CNC machining or manufacturing technology is preferred.
  • Experience in aerospace, precision machining, or AS9100 manufacturing environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with documented procedures, work instructions, and company quality standards.
  • Set up 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC milling machines for production.
  • Verify routers, engineering drawings, and revision levels before beginning production.
  • Review CNC programs and determine the proper setup sequence and machining operations.
  • Establish repeatable machine setups and prepare setup instructions for machine operators.
  • Perform tool setup, offsets, adjustments, and verify tooling availability, including backup tooling.
  • Verify daily production output, cycle times, and production expectations.
  • Maintain scrap levels within established company targets.
  • Complete and verify In-Process Inspection Check (IPIC) documentation.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Inspect incoming, in-process, and completed components to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Identify machining issues and communicate concerns promptly to supervisors and programmers.
  • Collaborate with CNC Programming, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to improve machining processes.
  • Maintain organized and clean work areas while supporting company 5S initiatives.
  • Follow all safety policies, quality procedures, and AS9100D requirements.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
