CNC Programmer - 1st Shift

HiFyve•Glen Burnie, MD

About The Position

A precision machining company serving the aerospace and defense sector is hiring a senior CNC Programmer for its Glen Burnie, Maryland shop. This hands-on role programs work across 2–3 axis mills, mill-turn and live-tooling lathes, and 3+2 indexed multi-axis mills using Mastercam 2025. The programmer takes parts from engineering prints through verified, production-ready NC code and provides guidance when setups are complex. The position is on first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pay is $40–$57 per hour depending on experience. The site is ITAR-regulated and requires U.S. person status.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of CNC programming experience, with hands-on Mastercam experience (2025 or recent versions).
  • Proven 2–3 axis mill programming experience, including pocketing, contouring, drilling and tapping, and multi-setup planning.
  • Proven lathe/mill-turn programming experience, including OD/ID turning, grooving, threading, live tooling/C-axis; sub-spindle transfer experience is a strong plus.
  • Proven 3+2 positional multi-axis programming experience, including plane/WCS strategy, multi-orientation work offsets, and collision-aware verification.
  • Working knowledge of G-code and post structure, with the ability to read, troubleshoot, and hand-edit posted code.
  • Solid knowledge of feeds, speeds, and tooling for aluminum, stainless steel, and alloy steels.
  • Engineering print reading skills, including GD&T, and machinist-level shop math.
  • U.S. person status, required for the ITAR site.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, or Fanuc-style controls.
  • Training or mentoring experience with junior programmers.
  • CMM and inspection familiarity.
  • Continuous simultaneous 5-axis programming experience.

Responsibilities

  • Program parts in Mastercam 2025 for 2–3 axis mills, lathe/mill-turn machines with live tooling and sub-spindle transfer, and 3+2 positional multi-axis work; select an appropriate process for each part.
  • Read engineering prints, including GD&T, and translate tolerance and finish requirements into toolpath, tooling, and workholding decisions.
  • Plan workholding and setup sequencing, including multi-setup mill parts, sub-spindle transfers, and indexed orientations, to control cost, cycle time, and stacked location error.
  • Select tooling, feeds, and speeds appropriate to the material and operation.
  • Verify programs using solid and machine simulation with fixture, holder, turret, and trunnion models before releasing them to the shop floor.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot post processors and control definitions, and investigate posted-code issues such as rotary-axis output, canned-cycle mismatches, and offset errors.
  • Write clear setup sheets containing tool lists, work offset and plane assignments, and setup notes.
  • Support first-article runs and troubleshoot in-process issues, including chatter, finish, thread fit, and transfer marks.
  • Improve cycle time and repeatability on ongoing production jobs.

Benefits

  • Full benefits package; details shared during the interview process.
