About The Position

Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a CNC Programmer . Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our San Diego, CA-Otay Mesa location and reports to the Director of Manufacturing. Position Summary: Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine. Maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years programming experience in composite CNC machined parts
  • MUST have advanced knowledge of programming
  • Strong understanding of 4 and 5 Axis machining, materials, processes and tolerances
  • Mechanically able to assemble and disassemble parts and assemblies
  • Self-starter with excellent time management skills and ability to establish objectives
  • Experience with contact and non-contact inspection methods
  • Organized, self-motivated, strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple duties, set priorities and follow tasks through completion
  • Capable of working in an environment in which demands and priorities change
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Processing techniques such as wet lay-up, mold and fixture design, inspection methods, and infusion preferred

Responsibilities

  • Creates instructions for machining parts using Mastercam
  • Reviews 3D CAD design blueprints (SolidWorks)
  • Makes calculations for programming including where materials should be cut
  • Translates instructions into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program
  • Communicates with engineers and clients who will use the programs
  • Checks completed programs by running simulations or tests
  • Prepares geometric layout of designs using proper software
  • Determines sequence of operations in a program
  • Writes programs and modifies existing ones for increased efficiency
  • Analyzes and selects speeds and cutting tools for programs
  • Prepares and sets up CNC machines to run first parts
