About The Position

The overall goal of this role is to operate a production department, ensuring that customers receive satisfactory quality, delivery, and price while maintaining an adequate return within company standards for safety, quality, and productivity. This position involves programming CNC equipment, troubleshooting machining problems, and supervising production, engineering, and quality staff. The role also includes providing quotes, planning production processes, developing machine layouts, and instructing other employees. Additionally, the position requires assisting in planning daily operations, developing work methods, authorizing overtime, and fostering a culture of safety. Coordination with various company departments and assisting in staff training are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Leadership: A strong willingness and demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results through others.

  • Working knowledge of basic math, Microsoft Office, and MRP applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Global Shop).
  • Thorough knowledge of CNC lathe machines, machining production process; purchasing; tooling and inventory control.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understand and be flexible to meet customer needs.
  • Ability to creatively resolve problems.

  • Ability to implement company standards.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business administration, manufacturing technology, or related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience on CNC machines or similar industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Setup/repair knowledge may be preferred for night shift supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Program CNC equipment, set all tools, and troubleshoot machining problems.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and provide leadership to production, engineering, and quality staff.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes in methods and procedures within assigned areas.
  • Provide quotes to the Sales Department.
  • Work with Quality and Engineering to plan production process for parts during the PECT process.
  • Develop and/or review machine layouts and program and set up machines per layout.
  • Document all changes to machine/tool layout.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining problems.
  • Instruct other employees in the use, care, and operation of machines.
  • Assist in planning day-to-day department operations.
  • Develop and implement work methods and authorize overtime.
  • Assure that a culture of Safety is expected and encourage all employees/guests within the company.
  • Coordinate work efforts in a positive manner with company departments, quality, shipping, accounting, purchasing, Human Resources, and other departments.
  • Assist in evaluation and implementation of training needs for staff members.
  • Perform maintenance on and repair mechanical problems on machines as necessary.
  • Communicate all necessary information to Management, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, other production departments, and fellow employees.
  • Complete all paperwork per proper procedures (routing card, tool change logs, count sheets, etc.).
  • Properly identify parts and enter production into the information system.
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner, keep floors clean and free of oil, chips & debris.
  • Perform all safety inspections to equipment daily, use proper machine guards and lifting techniques.
  • May schedule, coordinate material availability & machine utilization to maximize efficiency & productivity.
  • May conduct performance evaluation and salary reviews for assigned staff under the direction of the Production Manager.
  • Responsible for all other duties as necessary to ensure department meets all key measures.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety rules as described in the company handbook.
