The CNC Programmer III leads the development of complex CNC programs for high-risk aerospace components, mentors junior programmers, and ensures process robustness across production environments. Tasks and responsibilities expected for this role include those captured by lower role specific levels. This role involves working closely with engineers, production technicians, and operations teams to support multiple programs and value streams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of CNC programming experience
  • Deep knowledge of multi-axis programming challenges
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and aerospace tolerances
  • Experience mentoring and leading program efforts
  • Ability to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to complete required employment eligibility verification form upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Lead programming for complex, multi-axis aerospace parts
  • Advise on fixture design and part setup strategies
  • Integrate programming standards into production workflows
  • Troubleshoot program-related machining issues
  • Conduct training and mentoring for Program I–II personnel
  • Participate in design-for-manufacturability (DFM) reviews
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on tooling and process improvements
  • Perform program validation using simulation, dry runs, and machine tests
  • Generate basic 2–3 axis CNC programs using approved CAM software
  • Interpret engineering drawings and identify features to machine
  • Select appropriate tools, speeds, feeds, and cutting strategies per standard guidelines
  • Validate programs via simulation and identify obvious collisions or issues
  • Support machinists and manufacturing engineering during first runs
  • Maintain and update tooling libraries per standards
  • Document program revisions and configuration control data
  • Follow safety and quality standards (AS9100, FOD, PPE protocols)
  • Develop CNC programs (3–5 axis) based on engineering drawings and process plans
  • Optimize toolpaths for efficiency and quality
  • Collaborate with machinists to validate programs on the machine
  • Ensure programs comply with GD&T, tolerances, and surface finish requirements
  • Define tooling, fixturing, and cutting parameters
  • Support production ramps and resolve machining issues
  • Participate in first-article inspections and initial validation
  • Maintain program version control
