About The Position

Shamrock Metals is seeking a Detailer / CNC Programmer with strong AutoCAD skills and a foundational understanding of fabrication principles. This role involves a dual focus: producing shop drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor, including 2D and 3D drawings, dimensions, and fabrication notes; and CNC programming, specifically learning to program the FLOW waterjet and developing flat pattern stretch-outs for various operations like brake, shear, and V-groove. The position requires the ability to read drawings, work in CAD, and translate design intent into production documentation. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the shop floor, gaining insights into how drawings and cut files transform into finished products, thereby refining their judgment and understanding of production-ready documentation. The ideal candidate is technically competent, takes ownership of their work, and is eager to enhance their skills in a custom fabrication environment that values precision.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD. You must be able to produce accurate 2D drawings without supervision on day one.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and fabrication drawings.
  • 2+ years of experience in a drafting, detailing, or technical role related to fabrication, manufacturing, or construction.
  • Strong attention to detail. Small errors in drawings or cut files create big problems on the shop floor.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor or other 3D modeling software.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming concepts, nesting software, or flat pattern development.
  • Experience with Bluebeam or similar markup and document coordination tools.
  • Background in architectural metals, structural steel, sheet metal, or a related custom fabrication trade.
  • Associate's degree in drafting, CAD technology, manufacturing, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Produce nesting, cut files, and drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Read and interpret architectural drawings. Translate design intent into production-ready shop drawings.
  • Add dimensions, callouts, material specifications, and fabrication notes to drawing packages.
  • Use Bluebeam for markup, redlines, and document coordination.
  • Maintain organized project files and follow established drawing standards.
  • Learn to program the FLOW waterjet, including part nesting and toolpath setup.
  • Develop flat pattern stretch-outs for brake, shear, and V-groove operations.
  • Coordinate with shop floor personnel to verify cut file accuracy and resolve issues before production.
  • Maintain organized file structures and naming conventions for cut files and stretch-outs.
  • Work closely with the shop floor to understand how drawings and cut files translate into fabricated parts and assemblies.
  • Flag issues or conflicts in drawings rather than guessing. Surface problems early.
  • Take feedback constructively and apply it to improve the quality and accuracy of your work.
