About The Position

A Glulam CNC Operator at SmartLam North America’s custom glulam plant in Dothan, Alabama, safely and efficiently fabricates glulam beams by operating and maintaining CNC machines. The role involves interpreting shop drawings, programming and editing machine operations, checking finished products against specifications, and maintaining production and equipment records. The position is performed on-site; remote work is not available. The listed schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays, and availability for either day shift or second shift. Other duties may be assigned by supervisors, including the Finishing Supervisor. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

Experience setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines.
Ability to read and interpret shop drawings.
Understanding of CNC programming and ability to use CAM software.
Ability to identify and resolve CNC machining issues.
Strong understanding of safety procedures and practices.
Attention to detail to ensure finished-product accuracy and quality.
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, repeatedly lift 35 pounds, carry up to 50 pounds, push or pull up to 50 pounds, pinch or grip, and reach overhead and away from the body.
Ability to stand and walk for up to 10 hours.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC machines for repetitive operations on glulam wood beams.
Read and interpret shop drawings to understand beam dimensions, cuts, and specifications.
Program and edit CNC machines, including specifying speed, feed rates, and tool paths.
Clean and maintain CNC machines and related equipment.
Inspect finished products for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
Follow safety standards and safe work practices.
Maintain production and maintenance records, equipment inventory, and supplies.
Troubleshoot issues that arise during CNC machining.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
