About The Position

The CNC Operator - Lathe operates various CNC machines and manual equipment in accordance with inch and metric drawing specifications. The role includes inspecting machined components for accuracy, maintaining measuring tools and devices, and performing general housekeeping and preventive maintenance on CNC machines. The position works under general supervision and is based in Newton, New Jersey, with occasional duties at other Thorlabs locations. Operators may also use manual mills, lathes, and other secondary equipment as needed. The role requires meeting company quality and quantity standards and following company policies and workplace conduct directives.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent work experience.
Proficient computer skills.
Strong sense of ownership and work ethic.
Written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work well in a group atmosphere with minimal supervision and comply with high quality standards.
Ability to shift between tasks to address changing production priorities.

Nice To Haves

One to two years of experience in a similar position is preferred.
Training in CNC programming.
CNC certification or CNC trade school.
General understanding of blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing.

Responsibilities

Operate various CNC machines in compliance with inch and metric drawing specifications.
Monitor and inspect machined components for accuracy against drawing specifications.
Maintain and properly use measuring tools and devices used to inspect components.
Operate manual mills, lathes, and other secondary equipment as needed.
Maintain general housekeeping in the work area, including preventive maintenance on CNC machines.
Meet company standards for the quantity and quality of work performed.
Complete work-related tasks in compliance with company policies, procedures, and directives.
