About The Position

The CNC Operator (Floater) is an entry-level role responsible for supporting production across multiple departments on the shop floor. This position will rotate between work centers, assisting with CNC machine operations, material handling, inspection, and general production support. The role provides hands-on training and skill development in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (8+ hours)
  • Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs regularly
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and movement between workstations

Nice To Haves

  • Prior manufacturing, warehouse, or mechanical experience (even internships or vocational training)
  • Exposure to CNC machining or technical coursework
  • Experience using basic hand tools or measurement devices

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the setup and operation of CNC machines (mills, lathes, or other equipment) under supervision
  • Load and unload raw materials and finished goods
  • Monitor machine operations and notify lead or supervisor of issues
  • Perform basic machine adjustments and tool changes as trained
  • Follow standard work instructions and production schedules
  • Rotate between departments based on production needs (e.g., machining, assembly, finishing, or inspection)
  • Support bottlenecks and staffing gaps across the shop floor
  • Quickly learn new processes and adapt to different work environments
  • Perform basic inspections using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
  • Identify and report non-conforming parts
  • Maintain product quality and adhere to specifications and tolerances
  • Move materials between work centers using carts, pallet jacks, or forklifts (if certified)
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas (5S standards)
  • Assist with inventory staging and part tracking
  • Follow all safety guidelines, PPE requirements, and company policies
  • Participate in safety training and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain a safe and hazard-free work environment
