Position: CNC Operator Apprentice FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Company: GS Engineering Supervisor: CNC Supervisor Location: Maumee, Ohio Based in Maumee, Ohio, you'll work in a clean, safety-focused environment with opportunities for training, advancement, and hands-on work on cutting-edge thermoforming tools used by top global automotive brands.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–2 years of CNC machining experience (milling and/or turning) preferred but not required for candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments.
  • Mechanical aptitude and a basic understanding of shop mathematics.
  • Strong work ethic, dependable attendance, and attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn in a collaborative manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in automotive tooling, mold making, or thermoforming (preferred).
  • Exposure to Mastercam or other CNC programming software is a plus.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Safety-first mindset with a commitment to quality.
  • Flexibility to support changing production priorities.
  • Ability to safely lift 10–50 pounds and perform the physical requirements of a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to operate CNC milling and turning machines to produce precision tooling components according to detailed work instructions.
  • Load materials and tooling into CNC machines and verify machine setups meet job specifications.
  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and work instructions.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Work alongside CNC programmers, machinists, and engineers to ensure quality, accuracy, and on-time production.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while performing routine machine maintenance.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate production and quality information accurately.
  • Assist with troubleshooting minor machine, tooling, or quality issues under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to overall team performance.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Successfully progress through the structured apprenticeship program by completing required training, achieving skill development milestones, and demonstrating competency at each apprenticeship level.
  • Adhere to all apprenticeship program guidelines, training objectives, and performance expectations while actively developing CNC machining knowledge and skills.
