About The Position

The Machining & Heat Treatment Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the reliability, availability, and performance of machining centers, heat treatment equipment, and supporting production systems within a High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) manufacturing facility. This position performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to ensure safe operation, maximize equipment uptime, improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and support the production of high-quality machined and heat-treated aluminum components. The technician works closely with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Tooling, Quality, Maintenance, and Automation teams to minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout machining and thermal processing operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and automation systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, P&IDs, and OEM manuals.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, indicators, dial bore gauges, and alignment equipment.
  • Basic computer skills and experience using CMMS software.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, shutdowns, and rotating shifts as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical diploma, apprenticeship, or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, Machining, CNC Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Experience supporting CNC machining, automotive manufacturing, foundry, die casting, machining, or heat treatment operations preferred.
  • Experience maintaining CNC machining centers (SW, GROB, etc).
  • Experience with Fanuc, ABB,, Siemens, Mitsubishi, CNC controls.
  • Experience maintaining industrial heat treatment furnaces and quench systems (Can-Eng).
  • PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens,).
  • Experience supporting industrial robotics (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa).
  • Welding, fabrication, machining, or toolroom experience.
  • Forklift, overhead crane, hoist, and rigging certification.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on CNC machining centers, transfer machines, drilling and tapping machines, machining cells, washing systems, conveyors, coolant systems, chip handling equipment, robotic automation, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Maintain heat treatment equipment including solution heat treat furnaces, aging ovens, quench tanks, cooling systems, burners, circulation fans, atmosphere control systems, and material handling equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, servo, spindle, and automation failures to restore production safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect, repair, replace, rebuild, and adjust machine components including ball screws, linear guides, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulic units, coolant pumps, lubrication systems, and spindle assemblies.
  • Perform machine alignments, laser calibration, ballbar testing, spindle verification, axis compensation, and machine capability checks following repairs.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, relocation, acceptance testing, and production startup activities.
  • Troubleshoot CNC controls, PLC-controlled equipment, servo drives, HMIs, sensors, encoders, safety circuits, and industrial networks.
  • Support robotic systems used for machine tending, palletizing, deburring, washing, and automated material handling.
  • Perform maintenance on industrial washers, leak testers, coolant filtration systems, chip conveyors, mist collectors, and centralized coolant distribution systems.
  • Inspect and maintain furnace burners, combustion systems, temperature controllers, thermocouples, SCR power controllers, circulation fans, quench agitation systems, and cooling equipment.
  • Verify furnace temperature uniformity, instrumentation accuracy, and compliance with heat treatment process requirements.
  • Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, machining accuracy, throughput, cycle time, and process capability.
  • Execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs in accordance with OEM recommendations, maintenance schedules, and reliability standards.
  • Perform lubrication, vibration monitoring, thermography, oil analysis, spindle condition monitoring, and equipment health assessments.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and corrective action implementation to eliminate recurring equipment failures.
  • Support implementation of engineering changes, automation upgrades, machine retrofits, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend improvements to reduce downtime, improve OEE, extend equipment life, and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, work orders, downtime events, corrective actions, and spare parts usage within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Assist with spare parts identification, inventory management, and critical spare parts planning.
  • Participate in TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Follow all company safety policies, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, confined space requirements, arc flash procedures, environmental regulations, and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Communicate effectively with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance personnel during shift handoffs and downtime events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of plant operations.
