About The Position

The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines in compliance with inch and metric drawing specifications, including vertical and horizontal milling machines. The role works under general supervision and is based in Newton, New Jersey, though duties may occasionally be required at other Thorlabs locations. The schedule is 3:45 p.m. to 12:15 a.m., Monday through Friday. The position qualifies for a shift differential and a $5,000 sign-on bonus. The machinist produces precision tools and fixtures to tight tolerances and complex geometries, uses measurement and inspection equipment to verify finished work, and troubleshoots dimensional issues. The role also includes routine machine maintenance and repairs, completing production tasks to support on-time delivery, and maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work area. Work is performed in an environment that may involve moving mechanical parts, noise, and occasional contact with chemicals or fumes; ventilation systems normally minimize harmful effects.
