About The Position

The CNC Machinist will be responsible for preparing and loading raw materials, checking and changing parts on fixtures, and overseeing machines during operation. This role requires the ability to perform various CNC machining operations on mill and lathe, utilize precision measuring devices, and make tool offset changes to meet part tolerances. The machinist will also support equipment such as Bridgeport mills, manual lathes, and grinders, and have a general understanding of CAD/CAM systems. They will use blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels, update and follow setup sheets, and set up mill attachments like 4th and 5th axis. Mathematical calculations related to machining parameters and programming simple parts are also key responsibilities. The role involves working with and mentoring operators, and performing other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Ability to follow instructions and learn CAD/CAM programs.
  • Safety conscious.
  • 2-6 years past experience in machining processes.
  • CNC and Solid Works/CAMWorks programming as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Past experience in Solidworks and CAMworks is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machine.
  • Check and change parts on fixture and vice.
  • Oversee the machines while they execute the tasks.
  • Perform Blueprint math: stacked tolerance, edge distance.
  • Follow procedures and work instructions and select proper tools.
  • Use precision measuring devices.
  • Make tool offset changes to meet tolerance of part feature.
  • Perform various CNC machining operations on CNC mill and lathe.
  • Support equipment such as Bridgeport mill, manual lathe and grinders as required.
  • Utilize general knowledge and understanding of CAD/CAM systems.
  • Use blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product.
  • Update and follow setup sheet.
  • Set up the Mill attachments such as 4th and 5th axis.
  • Perform mathematical calculations related to SFPM, RPM, Feed Rates and chip load.
  • Program simple parts.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of G&M code.
  • Take direction from journeyman and leads.
  • Work with and mentor operators.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the organization.
