About The Position

The CNC Machinist role involves performing typical machine shop operations, including setting up and operating machining centers according to work instructions. The individual will analyze written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, and verbal instructions to plan layouts and determine the sequence of operations. Key responsibilities include following work instructions and standard operating procedures, detecting and reporting defective materials, and performing various machining tasks such as milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring, sawing, and sanding. The position also requires inspection of machined products, maintaining paperwork, assisting in other work areas like pre-form fabrication and furnace operation, and ensuring a clean and orderly work environment while adhering to safety procedures. Collaboration with engineers, production personnel, and programmers to resolve issues is also expected, along with completing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience as CNC Operator or equivalent technical machining certification/degree
  • Previous experience setting up and operating a CNC machine in a production environment
  • Experience with precision measurement methods and systems
  • Experience with computers (data entry, email)
  • Demonstrated ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide (i.e., proven elementary math skills)
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language (i.e., proven elementary reading and writing skills)
  • Demonstrated ability to converse and comprehend using the English language
  • Demonstrated ability to use a standard computer keyboard
  • Demonstrated ability to use handheld measuring tools including, but not limited to, calipers, micrometer, tape measures, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend engineering blueprints and/or customer product drawings

Responsibilities

  • Performs typical machine shop operations
  • Set up and operate machining center(s) per work instructions
  • Analyze written specifications, drawings and rough sketches and takes verbal instructions to plan layout and determine sequence of operations
  • Follow work instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management or other designee
  • Perform the following tasks including, but not limited to: milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring, sawing and sanding
  • Perform inspection of machined product (including documentation of results)
  • Complete and maintain paperwork for parts
  • Assist in other work areas, including but not limited to, pre-form fabrication, lay-up, infiltration, furnace operation and sand blasting
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve issues
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards
  • Responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System
  • Ensure adherence to company’s values (ICARE) in all aspects of your position at Coherent Corp.
