Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a CNC Machinist to operate CNC machines and use existing programming to produce tools & parts to dimensional requirements. The ideal candidate will possess several years of CNC operating experience, some exposure to CNC programming, and attributes of a self-starter as this individual will at times work under indirect supervision. Requirements

  • A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations
  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience
  • Previous CNC Programming experience preferred
  • Previous CMS knowledge
  • Previously operated 5-axis CNC machines
  • Understanding of material properties & characteristics
  • Working knowledge of various measuring gages: micrometers, pin gages, dial indicator, screw pitch gage, height gages and comparator stand/gage
  • Advanced Computer Knowledge
  • Ability to do trigonometry and geometrical math computations
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers, peers, management, manufacturing personnel, and both technical and non-technical people
  • Experience in laminating Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass, Kevlar, or other composites material
  • Experience in semi-repetitive specialized machine operations
  • Strong experience in machining tools
  • Ability to use hand tools and machinery
  • Able to follow instructions, sketches, blueprints, engineering drawings and manuals
  • Capable of problem-solving: Exercises judgment, based on previous experience, practices and precedents, to identify and solve problems that arise.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and to work alongside peers
  • Ability to manage time to get work completed on schedule
  • Dependable and accountable with strong attendance, time-management skills, and a consistent work ethic
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment performing accurate and quality products
  • Possesses high mechanical aptitude
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions explicitly or innovate, depending on situation

  • Must be a U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).

Responsibilities

  • Operate 5-axis CNC machines
  • Setup and operate a range of automatic or semiautomatic machines
  • Reports malfunctions in equipment and makes minor adjustments and repairs
  • Run CNC programs to produce tools & parts to dimensional/tolerance requirements
  • Participate in brainstorming / problem solving with Engineering & Production personnel to solve related problems
  • Gathers necessary tooling, fixtures, and materials needed for job per traveler requirements
  • Continuously monitors equipment to ensure safe operation and production of quality parts
  • Adjusts machines according to dimensional non-conformity
  • Understands and read production drawings, product requirements on the traveler, and know where critical characteristics are
  • Reports any machine malfunctions or safety hazards
  • Perform preventative maintenance to equipment
  • Follow Standard Industrial practice for working with composites and other materials
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
