The CNC Machinist is responsible for studying blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. This role involves measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions, selecting and aligning holding fixtures and cutting tools, and operating machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers. The machinist will also calculate and set machine controls, monitor machine operation for malfunctions, verify work piece conformance to specifications, and perform trial runs to ensure accuracy. Additionally, the role includes fitting and assembling parts, installing machined replacement parts, and developing specifications from general descriptions. Collaboration with engineers and production personnel to resolve machining or assembly problems is also a key part of the position.
