About The Position

This position involves working from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items, including precision items beyond the capabilities of production machine operators. The role requires adherence to lockout-tagout procedures, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and performing preventative maintenance on machines. The machinist will be responsible for milling, turning, drilling, tapping, deburring, bench operations, and inspection. They will also plan and operate machine shop tools, produce parts to tolerances, and manage scrap. Key tasks include loading parts, proving programs, operating controls, setting offsets, performing simple edits, and inspecting quality parts. The role requires studying and interpreting drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. The machinist must detect equipment malfunctions and adjust machines as needed to ensure quality production, and communicate with supervisors regarding assignments and issues.

Requirements

Must be able to operate all common machine shop equipment and hand tools skillfully.
Must be familiar with basic machine functions.
Must successfully read and interpret blueprints.
Must have intermediate knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments, including but not limited to: calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales.
Must have an understanding of G and M code.
Must have an understanding of geometric tolerance and dimensions.
Must have knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.
Must be able to adapt to a changing work environment.
Must have an understanding of basic math skills to include but not limited to the following: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.
Must be able to follow instructions.
Must be a self-starter.
Must have high attention to detail.
Highschool Diploma, preferred 2-year degree
At least 5 years’ experience as a fully qualified Machinist
At least 5 years’ experience multi-axis machining or 3 or 4-axis CNC milling
At least 5 years’ experience operating 2 or 3-axis CNC lathes

Responsibilities

Works from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items.
Produces precision items beyond the capabilities of production machine operators.
Follows lockout-tagout procedures when machines must be shut down for repair.
Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required per the P.M. charts.
Successfully performs milling, turning, drilling, tapping, deburring, bench operations, and inspection.
Reads and interprets blueprints to plan the setup and operation of all types of machine tools.
Plans setup and operates typical machine shop tools, producing parts to tolerances and company specifications.
Cleans up shavings of machine tool operation scrap and places them in the trash bin.
Responsible for loading parts, proving programs, operating controls, setting offsets, simple edits, and inspecting quality parts to meet requirements.
Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machines, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to ensure quality of production.
Communicates with supervisor for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
