About The Position

McConway & Torley, a company with a long history in the railroad industry, is currently searching for a CNC Machinist for their Pittsburgh, PA location. This role is crucial for meeting customer needs with high-quality railroad industry products. The company has been in continuous operation since 1869 and is known for its innovation and craftsmanship in producing all ARR approved couplers and custom solutions, all cast in the US.

Requirements

  • Must be able to operate complex Mazak programming on precision parts and check tight tolerances
  • Must be able to occasionally work differing shifts for training support as needed
  • Must be able to use basic measuring tools such as calipers, bore gauges, micrometers, and tape measures
  • Must be able to read drawings and machine a part to a drawing with no assistance
  • Must be able to machine critical dimensions and adjust tooling to hit desired tolerances and be well versed in adjusting tooling, programming, and setups to get a desired result
  • Must be able to run Mazak machines and be able to troubleshoot machine issues
  • Must be a professional leader who stabilizes a team and be comfortable addressing a group and giving leadership direction
  • Must be very patient as training is always ongoing with new/current machinists
  • As a people and technical leader, must be well experienced with the technical machining of multiple part types as well as experienced with training others
  • Must have the ability to function and communicate in a team setting
  • Must be attentive to detail
  • Must be punctual, predictable, and have regular attendance
  • Must be able to stand for long durations
  • Must be tolerant to extreme temperatures
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Must have a good attitude and be adaptable to changes
  • Must follows all safety requirements per safety department, JSA, supervision, and others
  • Must be available to work either shift and overtime as necessary
  • Must be able to lift up to 75lbs
  • Must be able to follow a strict safety program

Responsibilities

  • Performing Quality inspections
  • Operating overhead cranes and forklift to transfer materials
  • Reading engineering drawings
  • Performing machining setup changes and troubleshooting machine errors
  • Coaching, Developing and Training entry machinists
  • Complete regular production
  • Multi-task and tend to multiple machines regularly
  • Adjusting machining programs (specifically Mazak) to get desired results
  • Collaborating with the Machinist Tech lead to learn how to build fixtures, write programs from scratch, and setup new parts
