About The Position

This position is responsible for producing machined parts by setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. This position may also be responsible for setting up and operating manual machines at times.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of experience running and programming CNC equipment
  • Proven ability to edit existing programs and test new ones
  • Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Basic math skills including some geometry
  • Ability to use tooling
  • Forklift certification
  • Crane certification

Responsibilities

  • Programs CNC machines by entering instructions, setting work offsets and reference points, entering key tool data, tool offsets, compensation, and conditional adjustments; calculating requirements. Proving parts programs by simulation or dry runs.
  • Uses MasterCam software to download posts to the machines. When programming lathes, use Mazatrol, HAAS, or E-Z Guide software conversationally on the machine tools.
  • Sets up CNC machines with long running parts for operators. Communicates with operators on how to change out parts after 1st piece inspection is completed. Provides operators with key dimensions to inspect, inserts or tools to be replaced, and other comp dimensions that may be needed to modify.
  • Sets-up CNC machines by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, vises, fixtures, tie downs, attachments, collets and stops.
  • Loads feed mechanisms by lifting stock into position. Verifies setting by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces while adhering to company standards. Performs first piece inspections.
  • Maintains specifications by observing, drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools.
  • Measures completed parts using micrometers, gauges, caliper, templates, or rulers.
  • Sharpens tooling as needed, prior to use.
  • Follows daily workcenter schedule and communicates status with Lead.
  • May use forklift and/or overhead crane to move material to and from machine work center.
  • Cleans and lubricates machine and records maintenance performed.
  • Demonstrates the Caldwell Company Values in all work activities.
  • Complies with all safety rules and requirements.
