CNC Machinist - Swiss - Level II/III - 1st or 2nd Shift

About The Position

This role is for a CNC Machinist specializing in Swiss machines, responsible for setting up and operating these machines to produce highly precise component parts that meet all quality standards. The position requires the ability to work independently and provide training and guidance to others. This is a 100% in-office role at our plant in East Hartford, CT, with options for either the 1st or 2nd shift. The 2nd shift offers a 10% shift differential.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 7 years of set-up experience minimum required.
  • Must be familiar with Fanuc and/or Mitsubishi Controls.
  • Must be able to set and change tools.
  • Must be able to use standard gauges and inspection techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to read and write comments, understand operation sheets/blueprints, specifications, and all applicable company/customer paperwork.
  • Must be able to read CNC programs.
  • Five plus years of increasingly diverse experience in a machine shop or CNC machining environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school training a plus.
  • Experience with aerospace products and/or other close tolerance parts is a plus.
  • Experience with SPC, inspection documentation, and problem solving is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and operate Swiss Turning machines (Citizen L20, A20, A32, M32, M32Y)
  • Work with blueprints, operation sheets, and other work instructions.
  • Set-ups and completes machining operations to produce a quality part based on blueprints, operation sheets, travelers, or other specifications.
  • Check material specifications, obtain bar stock or material from staging area.
  • Perform complex set-ups of own work or for others.
  • Make all required adjustments to the machinery, obtain tooling, gages, inserts, and other equipment needed for set-up, and bring up the program.
  • Edit CNC programs as necessary.
  • Assist other Operators or Set-up/Operators with set-up or production problems and help train other set-up/operators.
  • Ensure all manufactured parts comply with quality standards.
  • Perform visual inspections and dimensional verification using measuring instruments.
  • Replace worn or damaged tooling.
  • Verify and record actual part count.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and maintain fluid levels.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and organized.
  • Return excess bar stock or material to the staging area.
  • Move finished work to an assigned area.
  • Enter work performed into the database and document all scrap.
  • Notify lead person or supervisor of any parts shortages or machining problems/difficulties.
  • Pack and wash/preserve parts as needed.
  • Perform other machining and assembly operations as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Interact with associates from all departments.
