About The Position

John Crane is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist for a Day Shift position. This role involves setting up, programming, editing programs, and operating numerically controlled machinery such as lathes, mills, and drills. The machinist will be responsible for maintaining quality and tolerances within .0003”, following procedures, and working from various forms of instruction including work order routings, prints, and sketches. A working knowledge of programming languages and the ability to adapt to different machines is essential. The role requires understanding and modifying machine parameters, working with a variety of materials, presetting and potentially re-sharpening tools, and inspecting work using precision measuring instruments. Additionally, the machinist will perform preventative maintenance, adhere to safety policies, maintain accurate labor and time reports, and keep the work area clean and orderly. Other duties may be assigned based on individual branch requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a technical school education and working machinist knowledge or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of CNC machine tool Programming & Operating experience.
  • Numerical control machining skills experience and ability to read and interpret work related machine drawings.
  • Make average to complicated mathematical calculations and resolve elementary technical problems.
  • Can operate a minimum of 2 CNC machine tools.
  • Possesses previous experience as a Manual machinist.
  • Must be detail oriented; be able to work independently using sound judgment.
  • Good verbal, written, problem solving and organization skills required.
  • Capable of handling multiple priorities.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages and the ability to learn / adapt per machine.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up, writes programs and edits existing programs, and operates numerically controlled machinery (lathes, mills, drills, etc.).
  • Maintains quality and tolerances within .0003”.
  • Follows written and verbal procedures for machining and other duties.
  • Works from work order routings, prints, sketches, layout sheets, written and verbal instructions.
  • Recognizes and understands functions of machine parameters with the ability to modify as required per supervisor’s instructions.
  • Utilizes knowledge of working properties for a variety of materials (stainless steel, alloy steel, cast iron, brass, exotics, etc.).
  • Presets tools and may be required to re-sharpen.
  • Inspects work produced using micrometer, bore gage, venire calipers, or other measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Follows preventative maintenance procedures on equipment and reports operating difficulties.
  • Performs duties in accordance with company safety policies and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Makes proper labor and time reports.
  • Keeps machine(s) / work area clean and orderly.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities based upon individual branch requirements.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
