About The Position

The CNC Machinist II is an intermediate-level machinist who independently operates CNC machines, performs basic setups, changes and adjusts tooling without supervision, troubleshoots routine machine and process issues, and supports training new hires. The role requires technical judgment, ownership of assigned equipment, and proactive communication to support safe, efficient, high-quality production. The machinist works with established programs, work instructions, engineering requirements, and safety procedures. They perform routine setups and tooling and offset adjustments within their authority, and escalate complex setup, programming, tooling, or quality issues to a CNC Machinist III, CNC Machinist Lead, or Supervisor. They also communicate machine status through shift handoffs and problem-solving meetings, contribute to continuous improvement and waste reduction, and maintain an organized work area under 5S standards. The position is based in a manufacturing machine shop, with exposure to machine noise, metal chips, coolants, oils, fumes, mists, and temperature variations. Required PPE includes safety glasses, steel-toe footwear, and hearing protection. The role includes physical activity such as standing and walking throughout the shift, moving parts, and repetitive hand and wrist motions.

Requirements

  • 3–4 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to perform basic CNC machine setups independently.
  • Ability to select tooling and change all tooling without supervision.

  • Recognize improper machine functioning, take corrective action within scope, and escalate complex issues to a CNC Machinist III, CNC Machinist Lead, or Supervisor.
  • Use pass down sheets when face-to-face shift changeover is not feasible and participate in face-to-face problem-solving meetings to communicate tooling changes, tool life concerns, maintenance or equipment issues, machine performance trends, and job or setup status.
  • Use shop floor systems for production tracking, quality documentation, and communication.
  • Assist supervisors, mechanical engineers, and planners with work organization and continuous improvement efforts to reduce setup time, cycle time, and machine downtime.
  • Implement and suggest waste elimination initiatives, including recycling opportunities and reducing production-related waste.
  • Train and support new hires on machine operation, tooling changes, inspection methods, and shop procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S standards.
