About The Position

Operates machines with computer controls that use single or multiple spindle lathe type screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock and completes tool changes. The position requires removing and replacing dull cutting tools, mounting, installing, aligning and securing tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, and operating machines to produce production at expected levels. The role involves understanding tool geometry and tool path, reading and understanding the basic layout of CNC programs, and measuring dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications. The machinist will listen to machines during operation to detect issues like dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines accordingly. They will also stop machines to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, and shadow and assist onboarding team members. Reading blueprints or job orders for product specifications, performing record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and following safety regulations are also key duties. Lifting work pieces to machines manually or with hoists/cranes, utilizing calipers, micrometers, and gauging tools for inspection, and performing Statistical Process Control (SPC) are essential. The role also includes adhering to 5S department procedures, attending required training, and complying with all Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures. Employees are responsible for bringing any nonconformance to management’s attention immediately and seeking opportunities to improve HSE performance. Recognizing and preventing cosmetic non-conformances and suggesting waste elimination initiatives are also part of the role. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
1 years’ minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of basic computer mainframe systems, data entry, and familiarity with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to calculate figures and apply concepts of basic algebra and basic geometry.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Evidence of “US person” is required under ITAR.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The responsibilities of the position include compliance with company and governmental safety, environmental and hazardous materials regulations and procedures.
The employee will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment in specified areas.

Responsibilities

Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
Mount, install, align and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
Operates machines to produce production at expected levels.
Understands tool geometry and tool path.
Reads and understands the basic layout of CNC programs.
Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences.
Shadow and assist onboarding team members.
Reads blueprint or job order for product specification such as dimensions, tolerance, number or parts to be formed and tooling instruction on type tooling required.
Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows safety regulations.
Lifts work pieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes.
Utilizes calipers, micrometers, and gauging tools to perform inspection to ensure conformance, dimension, and tolerance levels are within specifications.
Performs Statistical Process Control (SPC) and verifies part samples to blueprint specification. Makes adjustments to the process as required.
Follow all 5S department procedures which include but are not limited to; keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organize part pans, and performs other housekeeping duties.
Attends all required job related training (internal and external).

Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying Supervisor.
Suggest waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.
