CNC MACHINIST I

LISI Aerospace•Garden Grove, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

The CNC Machinist I operates CNC machines and performs routine machining tasks to support production and quality requirements. The role focuses on consistent operation of assigned machines, basic tooling changes, and in-process inspection while following established programs, work instructions, and safety procedures. The machinist works independently within the scope of routine operation and escalates issues beyond that scope to higher-level machinists or supervision. The position also involves maintaining production and quality documentation, communicating machine status through pass-down sheets and face-to-face discussions, and assisting supervisors, mechanical engineers, and planners with work organization and continuous improvement. The role is performed in a manufacturing machine shop and includes physical activity, exposure to typical machining conditions, and required use of personal protective equipment. The CNC Machinist I is expected to support the site's health, safety, and environmental culture by following established rules, reporting or correcting hazards when possible, participating in requested analyses or working groups, and helping reduce environmental impacts and workplace risks.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing environment and following established programs.
  • Ability to adjust basic tooling and make routine tooling changes.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints.
  • Basic math skills, including decimals and fractions.
  • Ability to communicate machine status and issues clearly through pass-downs and face-to-face communication.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the entire shift.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to perform frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions, operate machine controls, repeatedly open and close machine doors, and load parts into chucks or fixtures.
  • Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and grasp as required.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read measuring instruments, machine displays, and blueprints.
  • Ability to follow safety rules, job safety analyses, and PPE requirements; communicate professionally and work respectfully with teammates and leads.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machines according to established programs, work instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Load and unload parts and monitor machine cycles.
  • Change basic tooling as required.
  • Use gauges and precision measuring devices to perform in-process inspections and verify quality and dimensional requirements.
  • Recognize improper machine functioning and report findings to a CNC Machinist II, CNC Machinist III, CNC Machinist Lead, or Supervisor.
  • Use pass-down sheets and face-to-face problem-solving meetings to communicate tooling change dates and times, maintenance or equipment issues, machine performance or repeatability concerns, and the status of setups or jobs in progress.
  • Use shop floor systems for production tracking, quality, and communication.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and comply with company safety, quality, and production policies.
  • Assist supervisors, mechanical engineers, and planners with work organization to support continuous improvement and reduce setup time, cycle time, and machine downtime.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational needs.
  • Follow safety rules, job safety analyses, and PPE requirements; stop work and escalate concerns when safety or quality risks are identified.
  • Complete documentation accurately and consistently, take ownership of assigned machines and tasks, and communicate machine status clearly.
  • Participate in the development and promotion of the HSE culture, follow health, safety, and environmental instructions, and correct or report malfunctions and risky situations.
  • Implement preventive actions to reduce environmental footprint and control health and safety risks.
  • Participate upon request in risk or incident analyses and HSE working groups related to the role.
  • Know the main health and safety risks and environmental impacts associated with the work, as well as the site's HSE policy and objectives.
  • Propose improvements to working conditions and ways to limit environmental impact.
