About The Position

Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking motivated individuals for their Apprenticeship Program, which combines on-the-job training with related instruction at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. This program offers a practical alternative to traditional college education, providing the foundation for a career in CNC Machining. The program lasts three years and leads to a nationally recognized Certificate of Completion, run in partnership with the US Department of Labor and Industry and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Participants will start in a 1-year program and, if successful, will be invited to complete an additional two years. Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED with a minimum GPA of 2.8.
  • Basic knowledge of product manufacturing and inspection.
  • Basic personal computer proficiency (word processing, internet, e-mail, electronic data retrieval).
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DOD Confidential Security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Security clearance is required before the start of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or education in Turning/Milling/Grinding equipment/ CNC Machining.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all safety rules and company standards (e.g., Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Management System, and BJPC Production System).
  • Operate lathes
  • Operate CNC Machines
  • Follow production plans to meet customer requirements.
  • Extract information from drawings.
  • Prepare and implement tool and fixture changes.
  • Resolve conflicts within the team in the spirit of teamwork to ensure high standards of professionalism.
  • Successful completion of related instruction and on-the-job training
  • Participate in process improvement activities to satisfy customer needs and cost reduction targets.
  • Notify supervision or unsafe conditions, needed tooling, material, or problems
  • Maintain tooling equipment and cleanliness of assigned work areas
  • Safely operate cranes, forklifts, grinders, and other material handling equipment to move or re-position components
