This role is ideal for someone building foundational machining skills under supervision, with growth opportunities as skill and experience develop. ON THE JOB TRAINING PROVIDED

Requirements

  • Blueprint reading
  • Process document interpretation
  • Ability to select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines
  • Ability to start and observe machine operation to ensure no malfunctions or out of tolerance conditions occur
  • Ability to adjust tool and/or work offsets as required
  • Ability to enter commands and load control media into machine controllers
  • Ability to measure dimensions of finished workpieces using precision instruments
  • Ability to listen to machines during operation to detect signs of dull cutting tools or excessive vibration
  • Ability to maintain machines and remove and replace broken or worn tools using hand tools
  • Ability to keep machines and work area clean and organized
  • Ability to safeguard existing programs and save new programs with proper backup

Responsibilities

  • Study blueprints and process documents to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines
  • Start and observe machine operation to ensure no malfunctions or out of tolerance conditions occur; adjust tool and/or work offsets as required
  • Enter commands and load control media into machine controllers to retrieve programmed instructions
  • Ensure workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation
  • Measure dimensions of finished workpieces using precision instruments to ensure conformance to specifications
  • Listen to machines during operation to detect signs of dull cutting tools or excessive vibration, and report issues to a supervisor or programmer
  • Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors, or to obtain approval to continue production
  • Maintain machines and remove and replace broken or worn tools using hand tools
  • Keep machines and work area clean and organized; remove chips daily or as required
  • Safeguard existing programs and save new programs with proper backup
  • Lift workpieces to machines manually or with a hoist or crane
  • Comply with all safety standards and company policies
  • Assist in setting production standards
  • Demonstrate growth and retention of skill, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed
