About The Position

The Laser Cutting Machine Operator / Setup Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, and programming of laser cutting machines. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, performing routine maintenance, developing and optimizing laser cutting programs, and ensuring the quality of finished parts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating and programming laser cutting machines.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, tolerances, and materials.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical diploma or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or mechatronics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate laser cutting machines (fiber and/or CO2) to produce high-precision components.
  • Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
  • Perform routine maintenance and ensure machines are operating safely and efficiently.
  • Develop and optimize laser cutting manual programs using G codes and/or CAD/CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam).
  • Adjust cutting parameters based on material type and thickness to ensure quality and minimize waste.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure that tooling meets safety and performance standards.
  • Support initiatives to improve workflow and reduce manual labor.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Ensure all components meet dimensional and surface finish specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of machine settings, programs, and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on process enhancements.
