About The Position

Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. is seeking a CNC Laser Operator for its fabrication shop in St. Joseph, Missouri. The role produces quality parts by setting up and operating CNC laser cutting equipment, reading fabrication drawings, and inspecting finished parts. Experience with TRUMPF equipment is preferred. The position also involves routine equipment care, accurate production and maintenance documentation, safe material handling, and maintaining an organized work area. Regular and predictable attendance, punctuality, and engagement with Herzog’s culture and essential behaviors are required. The role is physically demanding at times and includes work around heavy or moving machinery, loud noise, uneven surfaces, and varying weather conditions. Pre-employment checks, a physical and medical evaluation, and drug screening are required; required safety certifications and testing must be completed and maintained annually.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience operating CNC laser cutting or similar fabrication equipment.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and work instructions.
Understanding of material types, thicknesses, and quality requirements.
Ability to use measuring tools to verify part dimensions.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to recognize and troubleshoot operating problems.
Safe and efficient material handling practices.
Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, crouching, standing, sitting, and walking on uneven surfaces.
Ability to pass color/vision examinations required for the position.
Ability to hear and distinguish auditory signals required for the position.
Pass pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
Pass pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
Successfully complete and maintain required annual safety certification and testing.

Nice To Haves

Experience with TRUMPF equipment.
Operation, setup, or programming of TRUMPF laser cutting equipment.
CNC programming, nesting, and cutting parameter adjustments.
Experience operating additional fabrication equipment, such as press brakes, shears, and saws.
Experience improving cutting efficiency, reducing scrap, and training other operators.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC laser cutting equipment using work orders, drawings, and approved cutting programs.
Verify material type, thickness, and quantity before cutting.
Safely load materials, unload finished parts, and identify parts for the next production operation.
Inspect finished parts for dimensions, cut quality, and compliance with job requirements.
Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot cutting issues, and make adjustments within training and authority.
Perform routine cleaning, equipment inspections, and assigned preventive maintenance.
Maintain accurate production and maintenance records.
Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Assist with other fabrication equipment and shop duties as assigned.
Regularly engage in, participate in, and promote Herzog’s culture and essential behaviors.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
Complete other duties as assigned.
Report safety violations to the immediate supervisor.
