About The Position

Customers across aerospace and defense, earthworks, energy, general engineering and transportation turn to Kennametal to help them manufacture with precision and efficiency. As a CNC Grinder, you will play a critical role in manufacturing high-precision carbide cutting tools using advanced CNC tool grinding machines. You will be responsible for programming, setup, operation, and inspection to ensure consistent, premium-quality output. This position is ideal for a hands-on machinist who values accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of 5-Axis CNC setup and operation experience.
  • Strong understanding of carbide cutting tools and grinding processes.

Nice To Haves

  • 5-Axis CNC setup and operation experience preferably on ANCA- or NUM-controlled platforms.
  • Machining or CNC-related certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of cutters, inserts, feeds, and speeds is a strong advantage.
  • CNC programming experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred; motivated learners are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision.
  • Ability to follow established processes while continuously improving output.
  • Solid problem-solving skills within a production environment.
  • Clear, professional communication skills and team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to shop-wide success.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow with evolving technology.

Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC grinding machines, including tooling, offsets, and adjustments.
  • Program and operate CNC grinders to meet exact blueprint and customer specifications.
  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints, prints, and technical documentation.
  • Inspect parts using precision measurement and quality control tools.
  • Monitor production quality throughout the process—catching issues before they become problems.
  • Troubleshoot quality concerns and communicate effectively with programmers and leadership.
  • Perform daily machine inspections to ensure safe, efficient operation.
  • Maintain organized, clean, and safe workstations.
  • Support continuous improvement and take ownership of your work.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support production goals.
