CNC EDM Toolmaker
About The Position
The CNC EDM Toolmaker sets up, programs, and operates wire and sinker EDM machines, designs electrodes using Solidworks, AutoCAD, or Mastercam, and works to tolerances of .0002. The role involves operating equipment with minimal assistance, maintaining dimensional part integrity, verifying completed operations, inspecting parts, performing preventative machine maintenance, and maintaining tooling according to established tool-life guidelines. The work environment has a usually moderate noise level and exposure to moving mechanical parts. The employee frequently lifts or moves up to 30 pounds and frequently stands, bends, squats, and reaches with hands and arms. The position also regularly requires standing for long periods, walking, talking, hearing, using hand tools, and reading applicable instructions.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Complete knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedure Manual.
- Two to three years of plant experience or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of all types of tooling and gauges.
- Ability to read micrometers, telescoping gauges, calipers, comparators, indicators, and similar instruments.
- Good problem-solving skills, safety practices, and attention to quality.
- Basic workbench and computer skills.
- Ability to set up, program, and operate wire and sinker EDM machines; design electrodes using Solidworks, AutoCAD, or Mastercam; and work to .0002 tolerances.
- Ability to use hand tools and read applicable instructions.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of Sinker Charmilles Roboform 35P.
- Knowledge of Wire Charmilles Robofil 310.
- Knowledge of Wire Mitsubishi MD + Pro III.
Responsibilities
- Operate and set up EDM equipment with minimal assistance.
- Change tooling as needed to maintain tolerances and provide input or recommendations when appropriate.
- Monitor assigned equipment to ensure dimensional part integrity.
- Preset tooling for setups and tool breakages during normal operations.
- Verify the accuracy of completed operations.
- Visually and dimensionally inspect parts using inspection equipment and techniques to ensure conformance to requirements.
- Perform preventative machine maintenance as required.
- Maintain tooling according to established tool-life guidelines.
