About The Position

This is a full-time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position for the 3 PM to 11 PM shift. The role requires every other weekend day or every third full weekend, plus every other holiday. The CNA will provide direct resident care, assist with daily living activities, maintain resident rooms, and support nursing staff in various procedures and observations. The position also involves participation in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives, Trauma Informed Care, and adherence to compliance and ethics standards.

Requirements

  • Current Pennsylvania State Certification for nursing assistant. Must be in good standing.
  • Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate with the elderly and other personnel.
  • Ability to anticipate needs and modes of geriatric Residents while remaining calm and composed.
  • Ability to treat Rest Haven and Resident information as confidential.
  • Must be a professional.
  • Criminal history background clearance – Act 169 & Act 13.

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduate preferred or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in hospital or nursing home preferred.
  • Must have patience, compassion, a sense of responsibility and a sincere desire to work with the aged and infirmed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform AM or PM care as required following the care plan outlined for each resident, keeping up with all changes to the plan of care throughout resident’s stay.
  • Assist residents to and from bed, chairs, etc.
  • Bathe Residents, give shampoos, shave Residents, trim nails, and assist Residents with personal and dental hygiene.
  • Dress Residents properly and comfortably.
  • Make beds and keep Resident rooms clean and orderly.
  • Deliver, serve, and remove meal trays. Assist Residents with meals, help to feed, and give personal care after meals.
  • Transport Residents for meals, activities, and therapies.
  • Serve fresh water, ice, and nourishment.
  • Assist Residents to and from bathroom. Assist Residents with bedpans and urinals. Keep incontinent Residents clean at all times. Change bed linen as often as necessary.
  • Prepare Residents for tests, x-rays, physician visits, therapies, activities, etc.
  • Rinse out heavily stained Resident laundry.
  • Assist relatives and visitors.
  • Assist with and/or perform procedures as outlined and with proper instruction and supervision such as: admitting, transferring, and discharging; taking and recording vital signs; measuring and recording intake and output, collecting specimens; changing binders and slings; emptying colostomy bags and drainage bottles; applying hot and cold compresses, and giving sitz baths.
  • Care for Residents in isolation.
  • Assist with care of dying/deceased.
  • Use safety devices and take precautions.
  • Ensure that room temperature and humidity are compatible with the Resident.
  • Assist nurses in giving treatments and examining Residents.
  • Use aseptic technique and universal precautions in all Resident care to prevent spread of disease and infection.
  • Observe Residents and note physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc. Report changes or unusual findings to supervisor.
  • Chart required information and signed entries.
  • Answer call-lights and bells timely.
  • Receive and give reports.
  • Assist with alarm rounds at change of shift.
  • Attend in-services, seminars, workshops, and conferences related to field.
  • Assist with emergencies and in redirecting agitated Residents.
  • Reserve Resident information as confidential.
  • Recognize your role as part of the QAPI efforts of your organization.
  • Attend trainings to build understanding and capacity to undertake QAPI work.
  • Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
  • Look for and share with leadership ideas for improvement in the organization.
  • Communicate to leadership upon witnessing a positive outcome of a QAPI project or detecting barriers preventing project success.
  • Support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally (i.e., via actions and attitude), including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.
  • Recognize your role for Trauma Informed Care: Promotes a culture of safety, empowerment and healing; recognizes that everyone who interacts at Rest Haven may have past traumatic experiences and protects trauma survivors from being re-traumatized.
  • Recognize your role for Compliance and Ethics: Participates in annual compliance and ethics training. Follows code of conduct reporting any compliance and ethics concerns.
  • Assist with physical and occupational therapy.
  • Perform personal services for Residents within reason, such as: reading, writing letters, operating TV/radio, and running in-house errands.
  • Perform assigned clerical duties at nursing station. Answer telephone and intercom. Run errands as directed by supervisor.
  • Participate in unit cleaning duties, such as cleaning of wheelchairs and gerichairs, as directed.
  • May perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
